A leading barrister is helping AFC Wimbledon contest their Football League charge for failing to recognise MK Dons by their full name when the two teams met in September.

Wimbledon referred to MK Dons as Milton Keynes or MK during the League One fixture at Kingsmeadow and did not mention them on their programme cover.

AFC have been charged with a breach of EFL rules which state that no member should “unfairly criticise, disparage, belittle or discredit” any other club in the league.

Jim Sturman QC is defending Wimbledon for free. The case will be heard by an independent panel and no date has yet been set for the hearing.

AFC Wimbledon were formed in 2002 after the original Wimbledon was relocated to Milton Keynes and feelings are still raw about the way the club was moved 56 miles north.
