Arsene Wenger has revealed that he has been delighted by Jack Wilshere’s recent form when called upon by Arsenal this season.
The England midfielder has struggled to hold down a starting spot at The Emirates over the last few seasons and he was shipped out on loan to Bournemouth for the 2016-17 campaign.
Wilshere has struggled with a string of serious injuries over the years but the midfielder will now be hoping to stay fully fit as he bids to break back into the Arsenal team ahead of the World Cup next summer.
The 25-year-old is yet to start a game in the Premier League for Arsenal this season, but has started four of the Gunners’ five games in the Europa League.
He came on as a second-half substitute and played the final 23 minutes of Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon.
And Wenger has been thrilled by the gradual improvements Wilshere has shown as the midfielder looks to earn his first Premier League start of the new campaign.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Sunday, Wenger said: “I feel he did alright when he came on because he had that little burst to be dangerous.
“I think he is focused, determined and that’s what we want from him. We play so many games that he is getting up and stronger in every game.”
Arsenal’s win lifted them up into fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of their home clash against Huddersfield on Wednesday night.
