Messi and Neymar spent four years at Barcelona together, helping the Catalan giants dominate football both domestically and on the European scene.
However, their brilliant partnership ended this summer when Neymar decided to join PSG in Ligue 1 instead.
Reports have always claimed that, despite the two players now turning out for different teams, the Barcelona and Real Madrid stars remain on good terms.
But Spanish outlet Diario Gol say that is not the case, and that Messi was actually unhappy with Neymar because of Real Madrid’s Ronaldo.
While Messi and Neymar’s rivalry has just started, the same cannot be said for the Argentine’s competition with Ronaldo.
For over a decade the players have vied for the world’s biggest trophies, with the two players sharing the Ballon d’Or between them every year since 2007.
As a result, Ronaldo and Messi are not exactly firm friends on or off the pitch.
And Diario Gol claim the Real Madrid forward prompted anger between Messi and Neymar.
The Barcelona star reportedly was furious at Neymar’s refusal to play for the team and how it prevented Messi from winning more individual prizes.
And he was also unhappy with the player’s father for sharing a snap of Ronaldo and Neymar together at an awards ceremony.
Meanwhile, Messi recently admitted it was unlikely he and Ronaldo would ever be friends.
“I don’t know if we will be,” he told Marca.
“Friendship is built through spending time together and getting to know each other.
