It looks set to be another explosive festive season in Soap Land, with Coronation Street and EastEnders both having huge story lines unravel throughout December.

Fans will be gripped over the coming weeks as they wait to find out of Bethany Platt can find her happy ending after a traumatic year and if Max Branning will finally get his comeuppance.

Bosses over at BBC and ITV have been teasing viewers of the possible dramatic events that could unfold this Christmas, and if recent years are anything to go by, we could have to stop the festivities just to see how it all plays out on the Cobbles.

We have taken a look and put together some of the possible big stories coming for our favourite soap characters before the New Year, The Mirror Online reports.

Coronation Street

Corrie producer Kate Oates has told the Radio Times magazine that the ITV soap’s biggest gift to viewers this year will be the return of Carla Connor.

The feisty former factory owner will be back on our screens as actress Alison King returns to the soap after her character left Weatherfield in May 2016.

Oates said: “Usually no stranger to a bottle of red wine, Carla is now sticking to soft drinks, but why? And will she help Aidan out in his time of crisis?”

Could the reason behind Carla’s lack of boozing be that she’s pregnant? And if so who’s the daddy?

Elsewhere, the Corrie boss revealed Billy’s halo has become “just a little bit tarnished” as the details of his shady past come to light.
