Craig Levein is ready to hand Hearts new boy Demetri Mitchell a baptism of fire in the Edinburgh derby.
The 21-year-old penned a six-month loan deal from Manchester United and flew into the Jambos’ winter training camp in Spain on Friday afternoon to meet up with his new team-mates.
The highly-rated left back, who has featured once for Jose Mourinho’s side, got his first taste of action yesterday as Hearts lost 5-0 in a friendly with German second tier side FC Nurnberg.
And Levein is now set to give Mitchell his competitive debut next Sunday as Hearts go head-to-head with Hibs in the Scottish Cup fourth round.
The gaffer said: “I have no qualms about playing Demetri in the derby. We don’t have a natural left-back and haven’t brought him here to sit on the bench.
“So provided he’s okay next week then I think he will be involved.”
This will be Mitchell’s first ever loan spell and Levein reckons he’ll quickly establish himself as a firm favourite with the Gorgie faithful.
