Gianluigi Buffon could continue his international career through to Euro 2020 with the Juventus goalkeeper set to be called up for friendlies against England and Argentina
Last time we saw Gianluigi Buffon in an Italy shirt he was crying his eyes out.
Italy had just failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and Buffon was bowing out with 175 international caps to his name.
Not a dry eye in the house.
But the story might not be over.
Buffon is considering prolonging his career through to Euro 2020, according to Sky Sports Italia.
Italy caretaker boss Luigi Di Biagio wants to call Buffon up for Italy’s friendlies against England and Argentina in March.
Buffon and Di Biagio have reportedly held positive talks about a potential return to the international stage for the 40-year-old.
The legendary goalkeeper has played a part in Juventus keeping 14 clean sheets in their last 15 games in all competitions.
While he’s no longer undisputed first-choice, as he’s sharing the role with Wojciech Szczesny, his ability shows no signs of declining.
