I’m Getting Death Threats After Kneeling

Meghan Linsey, who performed the national anthem at the Tennessee Titan-Seattle Seahawks game and then took a knee, revealed she is now receiving death threats.

“I’ve been waking up with anxiety a lot and it’s hard to eat food and sleep, but other than that, I’m good,” she told the Tennessean newspaper. “I feel like I did the right thing. I don’t have any regrets.”

The singer, who was runner-up on season eight of “The Voice,” says people have wished she would get cancer, accused her of being un-American, and believe she must hate the military, according to the newspaper.

In a column in The Washington Post, Linsey explained her decision to kneel after the anthem on Sunday and said it was to protest racism.

“I knew I had to find a way to stand in solidarity with my brothers, sisters, fans and friends who live with the effects of such toxic hatred all the time and are experiencing an even higher level of anxiety and fear because of the polarizing rhetoric (President Donald) Trump spews out,” she said. “I walked out to the middle of the field, sang the song and then peacefully locked arms with my boyfriend and took a knee. I took a knee for those who are mistreated, beaten down and disregarded in this country.”

And she also disclosed a series of death threats she received.

“In the past few days, I have received death threats and had cancer wished upon me by the same people who claim to be great patriots,” she said. “I’ve had people say that they should have executed me on the field. People are threatening my life because the idea that someone who looks like me would act against racism upsets them so much.”
