Jamie Carragher has admitted that he has been hugely impressed by Andreas Christensen’s performances for Chelsea FC this season.

The Danish defender has earned a regular spot in the first team under Antonio Conte this season after having returned to Stamford Bridge following back to back loan spells at Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 21-year-old’s top form for the Blues this season has seen him rewarded with a new contract at the west London club.

He has made 20 Premier League appearances for Chelsea FC in the Premier League this season and he returned to the team on Monday night when he helped the Blues keep a clean sheet in the 3-0 victory over West Brom at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues had struggled at the back during Christensen’s absence with a minor injury and former Liverpool FC defender Carragher has talked up the importance of the young defender to Antonio Conte’s side.

Speaking on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “A big miss has been this man, Christensen, who I’ve been so impressed with since he’s come in.

“I think Man United was one of his first games in the season. They fell apart since he came off against Bournemouth and conceded seven goals.”

Christensen will be hoping to feature for Chelsea FC when the Blues return to FA Cup action on Friday night with a fifth-round tie against Hull City at Stamford Bridge.
