Man Utd are leading Liverpool in the race to sign Kenya international midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to the bookies.

The Red Devils head-coach, Jose Mourinho is looking for a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick who is set to retire from football after the end of the current campaign.

And the bookies reckon the Red Devils are ahead of their arch-rivals as a summer battle for Spurs midfielder looms.

Wanyama has suffered an injury-hit campaign, and thus far he has made only ten appearances in the English top-tier.

But the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal could make all raid for Kenyan midifelder, despite his start-stop season.

BetStars Director of Trading Ian Marmion said: “Manchester United are interested in bringing in Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama as a long-term replacement for outgoing central midfielder Michael Carrick.

“United are the standout favourites to sign Wanyama and we have them at 5/4 to complete this transfer.

“Manchester United’s bitter rivals Liverpool are also in contention for Wanyama’s signature, their odds are just behind the Red Devils at 3/1.

“Jurgen Klopp may see Wanyama as the ideal replacement for Emre Can, who looks set to be on his way to Juventus this summer when his contract expires.”

Wanyama has joined the Tottenham Hotspur from Southampton earlier in 2016.
