Danny Higginbotham has hailed Naby Keita as an underrated player ahead of the African midfielder’s move to Liverpool FC.

The Reds agreed a big-money deal to sign the box to box midfielder from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig last summer.

However, Liverpool FC’s agreement hinged on Keita moving to Anfield at the end of the 2017-18 Bundesliga campaign.

The Merseyside outfit sold Philippe Coutinho in a £142m deal to La Liga giants Barcelona earlier in the January transfer window to leave a void in their midfield.

Speculation over the past week has suggested that Liverpool FC could rush through the transfer in order to bolster their midfield options ahead of their top-four push in the second half of the season.

RB Leipzig could be reluctant to consider Keita’s early exit given the Guinea international’s importance to their participation in the Europa League and challenge for a Champions League spot in the Bundesliga.

But former Manchester United defender Higginbotham endorsed the Liverpool FC signing and offer a couple of reasons why Keita would improve the Reds side in the second half of the 2017-18 season.

“He’s going to be a great signing for Liverpool, with what he brings to the midfield and the way he drives forward,” Higginbotham told Sky Sports News on Saturday.

“He’s very underrated as well in the way he can pick a pass and find a through-ball.”
