Jurgen Klopp today tried to convince the media that Virgil van Dijk was not a definite starter for Liverpool on Sunday.

The Reds boss, who also claimed he was undecided about throwing in Van Dijk for his debut last Friday, suggested Van Dijk may not be ready to face the runaway Premier League leaders Man City at Anfield.

The £75million recruit did make his debut in the FA Cup win over Everton just three days after signing from Southampton and he was immense.

Van Dijk headed in an 84th-minute winner and was a generally commanding figure alongside Joel Matip and the pair are more than likely set to resume their partnership against City, regardless of what Klopp said today.

“The Everton game showed he can adapt to the job,” said Klopp. “He was impressive, we have to say that.

“I wasn’t sure before the game but I was very sure afterwards!

“The City game is a completely different game and the tactics must be as tuned as possible. I haven’t decided if he is ready.

“If nothing else happens, I should sleep OK with those problems.”

The German coach revealed Jordan Henderson is closing in on a return to action, while Alberto Moreno will be available after the weekend’s game.

“Hendo is out on the pitch and looks good. Moreno trained yesterday and should be ready after Sunday. If nothing happens, he still needs time to train,” said Klopp.
