The BBC has revealed the shortlist for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017.

And Liverpool’s World taekwondo champion and Olympic medallist Bianca Walkden has made the top 12.

Gabby Logan announced the much-anticipated shortlist exclusively on BBC One’s The One Show earlier this evening. Gabby along with Gary Lineker and Clare Balding will present this year’s show from the Liverpool Echo Arena on Sunday 17 December, live on BBC One.

Bianca became only the second Briton to win a taekwondo world title and the first to successfully defend it in June this year when she beat American Jackie Galloway 14-4 in the heavyweight division.

Paralympic athlete Jonnie Peacock also makes the list, and also has Mersey links thanks to his Grandad, local amateur scoring sensation Johnnie Roberts.

The contenders are (in alphabetical order):

· Elise Christie (Speed skating)

· Mo Farah (Athletics)

· Chris Froome (Cycling)

· Lewis Hamilton (Formula 1)

· Anthony Joshua (Boxing)

· Harry Kane (Football)

· Johanna Konta (Tennis)

· Jonnie Peacock (Para-athletics)

· Adam Peaty (Swimming)

· Jonathan Rea (Motorcycling)

· Anya Shrubsole (Cricket)

· Bianca Walkden (Taekwondo)

The 12 sportsmen and women will now go on to compete for the public vote on the night of the live show.
