A man has been charged with attempted murder after a shooting in Southport town centre just before Christmas.

Shots were fired on Eastbank Street on December 21, as hundreds of people were carrying out their Christmas shopping.

Armed officers attended the incident and a man in his 20s was found with a head injury.

A bus driver was also injured in the incident.

Merseyside Police have confirmed tonight that a 21-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, ABH and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Jamie Bridge, of Wyresdale Road, Walton, will appear before South Sefton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Saturday, January 13).

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “Merseyside Police can confirm a 21 year-old man has tonight, Friday, January 12, been charged with attempted murder, ABH and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

“Jamie Bridge, of Wyresdale Road, Walton, will appear before South Sefton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Saturday, January 13).”

After the incident, shoppers watched as armed police swooped on the scene, cordoning off vast swathes of the surrounding area.
