United were beat by West Brom on Sunday


Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has publicly criticised his players after Sunday’s 1-0 home defeat to West Bromwich Albion saw bitter rivals Manchester City crowned Premier League champions and left the battle with Liverpool for a second place finish wide open. 

Jay Rodriguez‘s close-range headed goal gave the Premier League’s bottom club a huge victory in their fight for survival and left the Old Trafford boss visibly unimpressed with his team. 

Following the full-time whistle, Mourinho labelled his players ‘masters of complication’ and suggested that they were still ‘on the moon’ from last week’s impressive comeback against Manchester City. 

The Portuguese manager said “I won eight titles and I’m not on the moon because I won a match against City. I won too much to be happy with one big victory.”

This is just the latest evidence that Mourinho is less than satisfied with his Manchester United squad and feels that substantial further investment is required if they are to compete with Pep Guardiola‘s City team next season. 

If, that is, Jose Mourinho is still the Manchester United manager when the new season gets underway. Many fans have not enjoyed The Red Devils’ style of football this season and despite his undoubted managerial knowledge and experience, there have been murmurs that a different manager may be needed to bridge the gap.
