I’m a Celebrity viewers have been scratching their heads this year over Ant and Dec’s relentless mocking of former Chelsea and England midfielder Dennis Wise .

But Newcastle United fans with good memories will be all too aware of why they keep rinsing him – and undoubtedly enjoying the jibes.

Every night, Dec keeps calling Wise a “very small man”, made all the more ironic by the fact they are the exact same height: 5ft 6 inches.

As the Geordie duo are Magpies fans, this appears to be some light-hearted revenge on 50-year-old Wise, who wasn’t very popular with the locals when he was Executive Director of Football at Newcastle United in the late noughties.

Wise’s Wikipedia page even had to be locked yesterday after viewers – and, presumably, Magpies fans – abused public editing rights by adding “a very small man” to his biography.

Wise left Leeds to join the management team at Newcastle in January 2008 but was sacked the following year by owner Mike Ashley after various transfer rows and the club’s relegation.

Then-boss Kevin Keegan claimed Wise forced him to sign a player he had only ever seen on YouTube.

The claims came to light after Keegan won £2million in damages for wrongful dismissal from the club in October 2009.

In 2014 Wise leapt to the defence of Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew and angered Toon fans further by claiming they wouldn’t give anyone a chance if they were from London.
