Prince Harry proposed to his new bride-to-be Meghan Markle while they were roasting a chicken.
In their first interview since the engagement Harry also revealed a poignant detail about his proposal to the American actress.
Harry got down on one knee while the pair were enjoying a romantic evening alone together in his Kensington cottage.
In their first interview since becoming engaged Harry said: “It happened a few weeks ago, earlier this month, here at our cottage; just a standard typical night for us.
“We were roasting a chicken, trying to roast a chicken.
Meghan said she couldn’t wait to rush out her answer when the charming prince got down on one knee.
“Yes, as a matter of fact I could barely let you finish proposing, I said – can I say yes now?”.
“I think I really managed to catch her by surprise,” The price added.
The Prince also revealed that he designed Meghan Markle ’s engagement ring himself, using diamonds which belonged to his mother Diana, Princess of Wales.
The two outside stones from the three carat ring came from the late princess’s personal collection and are a heartbreaking tribute to Diana in the year of the 20th anniversary of her death.
At the centre of the ring is a large diamond from Botswana, a country that holds special significance for Harry who has visited many times since he was a child.
It is also a place where the couple has spent time together over the last year and a half, Kensington Palace said.
