Rio Ferdinand insists he is still unsure where Chelsea signing Tiemoue Bakayoko’s best position is in Antonio Conte’s team.
The Blues signed the French defensive midfielder in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco in the summer transfer window.
Bakayoko’s arrival freed up Serbia international Nemanja Matic to move to their title rivals Manchester United in £40m transfer in August.
The 22-year-old started the 2017-18 season with a knee problem before Bakayoko came into the Chelsea team and scored his first Premier League goal at Crystal Palace.
Bakayoko is far from being a polished midfielder but the summer signing showed his undoubted potential with a commanding display in a 1-0 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
However, the France international struggled to cope with Liverpool’s agile attack during a 1-1 draw Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand admitted that he still doesn’t know where Bakayoko should be playing in Antonio Conte’s Chelsea team.
“He was lacklustre, especially when they didn’t have the ball, defensively,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“We said before at half-time that Gary Cahill was left fairly exposed. He should be shouting at him.
“When he does get on the ball, you expect a bit of quality… I just don’t know what he is at the moment. He’s very athletic in terms of his build but I don’t see…
