The striker has struggled to make an impact since arriving from Sassuolo in the summer and is still looking for his first goal. This latest setback will now make things even harder.
Defrel came off the bench in the 58th minute as Roma drew 1-1 with Genoa at the weekend, but did not last long. Roma have not specified how long he will be out for but the rehabilitation process has already begun.
The statement read: “The club’s medical staff have issued the following update on the condition of forward Gregoire Defrel.
“On Monday morning Gregoire Defrel underwent medical evaluations which confirmed the striker suffered severe trauma to the left kneecap during Sunday’s game against Genoa. The player will begin the rehabilitation process immediately.”
Roma are fourth in Serie A, seven points adrift of leaders Napoli, and next welcome SPAL to Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.
