The pair squared off over a number of seasons for Mercedes, with Hamilton getting the better of the German in two championships and Rosberg claiming the 2016 edition.
He then retired from the sport and a somewhat frosty relationship with the Brit is said to have thawed, but it seems as though they might be at loggerheads again after reports of Rosberg’s comments.
“He has hinted this year that he doesn’t want to spend so much time travelling. He wouldn’t do that if he wasn’t thinking of it (retirement) at least a little,” he told German news agency DPA.
However, the 32-year-old took to Twitter to make it clear that his words had been taken out of context.
“Guys this headline is complete rubbish. How should I know how long Lewis still wants to drive?! He can still win a couple of championships,” he tweeted.
