As per a number of reports stemming from Germany this afternoon, Schalke have offered midfielder Leon Goretzka a huge new contract to stay at the club.
Goretzka, a 22-year-old all-action German midfielder, has been with Schalke since a move from Bochum in 2013, but his contract with Die Knappen is set to expire next summer.
As a result, speculation was rife earlier this year that the 12-time capped international had agreed to join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich on a free transfer in 2018.
However, Goretzka himself has since refuted these rumours, insisting that he has not agreed a deal with any other club.
The goalscoring midfielder, who has already netted 6 times for Germany, has been earmarked by a host of European giants as a potential free agent target next summer.
Along with Bayern, all of Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool, Juventus and Barcelona have been linked with moves for Goretzka, with the Gunners having reportedly already set up negotiations with the German’s representatives for January.
However, as per several outlets in the media in the midfielder’s home country today, Schalke are not ready to let go of their crown jewel without a fight, and have offered Goretzka a staggering new contract worth £11 million-per-year.
This deal would work out at over £200,00-per-week, more than many of the world’s top players currently earn at their respective clubs.
