This is the shocking moment thieves broke into a children’s nursery and stole a safe containing charity money.
CCTV footage shows two men, dressed in tracksuits, smashing through the door of Small Wonders Nursery in Haydock before leaping over and ransacking the front counter.
In another clip the burglars, whose faces are covered, can be seen carrying a large safe between them which they manoeuvre through the nursery and past children’s desks and art work.
The break-in took place at around 5am on Monday and police were called at 7.30am, when staff arrived.
Cash was stolen which had been raised for Children in Need and from the sale of raffle tickets – the proceeds of which were going towards resources for the children.
Deputy manager Lauren McGowan said: “It is just disgusting that people can be so low as to steal from children.
“It is isn’t about the money it was the meaning of it.
“The children had done lots of activities to raise it and we were still in the process of collecting it in, which is why it was locked away in the safe.
“They also smashed a hamper up that the children had made, which was to be raffled off.”
Lauren said police confirmed the yobs had used a crowbar and spanner-type implement to break into the property, via the back door.
Both tools used were recovered at the scene and have been seized for forensic testing.
