If Erik Lamela plays against Leicester City on Tuesday night it will end his and Tottenham’s 400-day wait for him to return to the first team.

The Argentine has not featured for Spurs’ senior side since their League Cup clash with Liverpool at Anfield, on October 25.

But his persistent injury problems appear to be coming to an end, with Mauricio Pochettino confirming in his pre-match press conference that the 25-year-old was in contention to return.

What was the injury?

As Jesus Perez, Mauricio Pochettino’s assistant, explained earlier this month: “It’s a small problem in Lamela’s hip with a tiny muscle, and the situation didn’t get fixed. It has taken him so long to get back from a simple injury.”
