Thibaut Courtois has admitted that Chelsea have it all to do in the race to try and defend their Premier League title this season.
The Blues fell 11 points behind leaders Manchester City this weekend after their 1-1 draw with Liverpool FC at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea are aiming to try and defend their title this season after having won the trophy in style last term in Antonio Conte’s first campaign in charge of the club.
However, the west London side did not have the distraction of European football last season as they focused purely on domestic affairs.
Manchester City have been by far the Premier League’s top performing club this season, with the Citizens having only dropped two points in their first 13 games in the top flight.
And although Courtois admits that Manchester City are the clear favourites to win the title this season, the Chelsea goalkeeper is hopeful that the Citizens could slip up in the coming weeks.
Courtois is quoted as saying by the Daily Star: “December is a very tough month. Maybe they drop some points.
“We have to be there to keep on winning and hopefully close down on them, then towards the end of the season maybe overtake them.
“But at the moment they are the best team in the league and it’s hard for them to drop points.”
Chelsea will look to return to winning ways in the Premier League on Wednesday night when they host Swansea City at Stamford Bridge.
