The Colombian signed from Palmeiras for £10million on Thursday, but he did something very strange for his first steps onto the Camp Nou turf
Barcelona’s unveiling of new transfers have bordered on the ridiculous this season.
Philippe Coutinho’s went off without a hitch last week as he managed to string together more than three kick ups.
Unfortunately for Ousmane Dembele, he had no such luck, barely controlling the ball as he attempted a few keepy uppies, just like Paulinho before him.
And don’t get me started with Theo Hernandez’s fail in front of the Real Madrid fans.
Barcelona secured the services of the towering Colombian centre back Yerry Mina on Thursday, bolstering their back line for the second half of the season.
The former Palmeiras man was paraded in front of the Barca faithful today but it was what he did as he took to the pitch that caught everyone’s eye.
He comes out of the tunnel, waves to the fans and then before stepping onto the hallowed Camp Nou turf he stops and takes his boots AND his socks off.
But why did he do it?
Well it turns out, it all comes down to Mina being a very superstitious man.
Every time he joins a new club the first time he steps onto the pitch it has to be barefoot as a mark of respect to the club he’s joining.
