Zaha said his hatred for Brighton is “11 out of 10” and the winger has made his Palace team-mates aware of the rivalry between the clubs.
Tonight will be the first meeting between the clubs in the Premier League and the fixture holds special significance for Zaha.
He scored twice at the Amex Stadium the last time the clubs met, in the Championship play-offs in 2013, and the Palace academy graduate knows what the rivalry means to the fans.
Zaha is set to get a hostile reception from Brighton fans but Hodgson will not tell the Palace talisman to hold back.
“No, no one is going to ask him to be careful,” said the Palace manager. “He has helped us out of a hole a couple of times, with the point against West Ham and then helping us get the victory against Stoke on Saturday. If he can keep doing that I will keep encouraging him to do that.
